Dude Ranch Operations Jobs
The operations side of a dude ranch is where many of the seasonal summer ranch jobs are found. The cabins need cleaning and upkeep, the ranch and its vehicles always undergoes maintenance, and reservations and front desk duties must get done too. The next page discusses other dude ranch jobs -- in the Activities realm.
Dude Ranch Maintenance Jobs
Maintenance people keep ranches running smoothly. They're ideally experienced in a variety of areas, such as carpentry, electrical, plumbing, vehicle maintenance, grounds maintenance, pool maintenance, and pretty much anything and everything else that needs maintaining.
They, too, pitch in with guest activities and must be ready and able to put out fires wherever they arise. Most ranches ask that maintenance applicants be at least 21 years old with a clean driving record.
Seasonal Housekeeping Jobs
While housekeeping isn't the most glamorous position, it offers variety, flexibility, and a good workout. Duties include cleaning guest rooms and common areas, light services, guest and ranch laundry and miscellaneous chores. Most housekeepers also work in food and beverage and, of course, participate in general ranch activities. The ability to lift heavy objects is a plus, as cleaning can be surprisingly physical, and previous experience may lead to a management role.
An office position at a ranch can provide a change of pace for a seasoned professional or give a novice the chance to learn the ins and outs of hospitality work. Responsibilities start with general office and computer duties, and may encompass reservations, guest relations, coordination of transport and activities, accounting, event planning and sales. Organizational skills and the ability to juggle projects are a must, as is a genuine desire to help guests plan the best dude ranch vacation possible.
